Kids of all ages will find fun aplenty at the “My Downtown’s Back” Music Fun Fest scheduled for Saturday, May 31 in downtown Greenville.
Clowns, games and even free toys will be a part of the mix for the younger set as Mom and Dad enjoy a day of music and shopping.
The event begins at 10 a.m., with free live music from noon to 6 p.m. The day concludes with the paid Kenneth Threadgill Concert at the Municipal Auditorium featuring Asleep at the Wheel.
The Red Cross will be providing water safety tips for kids on the southeast corner of the Hunt County Courthouse Square. Also on the square will be exhibits from the W.Walworth Harrison Public Library, the YMCA, and the Hunt County 4-H.
A bounce house and slide will be set up on St. John Street between Lee and Washington. Rosie the Clown will also be making a special appearance and free toys for children under 10 years of age will be given out while supplies last at My Sister’s Closet.
All around downtown, businesses will have on display Greenville elementary school students’ art work depicting Arbor Day.
Additional music events have also been added to the “My Downtown’s Back!” celebration.
The Stonewall Music Hall at 2611 Stonewall Street will be hosting a special open house that day to showcase their new music venue.
Lone Oak blues guitarist Colton Oneill will perform inside The Blue Armadillo Winery, and a Spanish band is slated to appear at Chimos Mexican Restaurant at the corner of Lee and King Streets.
These are in addition to the full day of music already announced which includes The Blues Doctors, Matt Koger and the Blue Ribbon Band, Ricky Nelson and Friends, Sam Mize, Keith Hamilton, Dempsey Denman, and Blast from the Past, all appearing at the main stage at Lee and St. John Streets.
The Steve Ferguson Band will do an acoustic set in front of the Greenville Municipal Auditorium from 5 to 6 p.m.
The music reaches its climax with the Kenneth Threadgill Concert featuring Asleep at the Wheel beginning at 7 p.m. All music events except the Threadgill Concert are free.
“My Downtown’s Back!” celebrates the continuing resurgence of downtown Greenville, including ribbon cuttings for five new businesses: Red Neck Jems Country Mercantile, Sassy Lady Boutique, Blissful Blends Café, The Blue Armadillo Winery and Tassels and Bows Gift Shop in the Uptown Forum Shopping Mall.
Food is a part of the fun with Sally’s Especially for You Café in Uptown Forum open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Blissful Blends Café open all day serving their popular specialty Chicken Enchilada Soup and Sandwich combo. “Dollar Dawgs” by TM Concessions will be set up near the music stage at Lee and St. John with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Friends of Main Street, and hot dogs will also be sold at Red Neck Jems Country Mercantile near Lee and Wesley, with proceeds going to Relay for Life.
A grand prize drawing has gotten even grander with the total now at more than $1,300 for one lucky winner who visits participating downtown merchants. Details and entry forms will be available at the main music stage.
Tickets for the Threadgill Concert featuring Asleep at the Wheel, Johnny Gimble and Hot Club of Cowtown will be available at Magic Bubble Party Supply, 2314 Lee Street.
