By media release
May 8, 2008

On Saturday, May 17 in the Whitewright Elementary School cafeteria there will be a special benefit for the Earl Wood Memorial Fund. This fund was set up to help the family that Earl Wood left behind when he was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in March of this year: his wife, Shelley, who is the Whitewright Girl Scout Troop’s leader, and daughters Veronica, 3rd grade, and Erin, 1st grade.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to give people a chance to peruse the silent auction items and place bids. Dinner will be served starting at 6:00 cafeteria style. Cut-off for silent auction bids will be at 7:00 and winners will be announced at 7:30. All winners must pay for and take their items home that evening.

The following is a list of businesses that have made donations to the silent auction to date: The Furniture Mart, Pettit’s Grocery, Peachtree Gallery, Room With a View, The Flower Shop, The Whitewright Sun, Hubbard’s Hardware, Independent Bank, Texas Star Bank, Ms. Megan’s, Let’s Go Shopping, Total Experience Salon, Woodsong Institute of Art, Whitewright Pharmacy, Polly’s Antiques, Quick Check, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Casa Vieja, Jennifer’s Hair Salon and Carlisle Mott from Edward Jones.

There will also be lots of Whitewright-themed craft items made by several of the WES teachers as well as baked goods from many residents of the area.

If you have an item you would like to donate for the silent auction, contact Tabetha Snow at 214-517-5998. If you can’t attend the benefit, but would like to make a donation to the Earl Wood Memorial Fund, you may do so at Independent Bank.

This is a family affair, so make sure you bring the kids! The theme is “Lady and the Tramp,” and we will have a special area set up for the kids to watch “Lady and the Tramp.”

We are working on lining up some entertainment for the evening as well.

The minimum donation for the meal will be $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 through 11.

Make plans to attend this special evening to show this family how much we care about them!
