Bonham -- They are, in many ways, the face of our community. And, for the families and friends of patients at Red River Regional Hospital, they are the people behind the warm smile and the kind words at the front desk and, in ways, the very face of the hospital.
Members of the Ladies Auxiliary at Red River Regional Hospital gathered Monday evening to reflect on the past year as well as elect new officers and set new goals for the coming year.
The featured speaker for the annual banquet, Judy Conejo, entertained the group with stories of two very memorable experiences she had doing volunteer work, but she also presented the Ladies Auxiliary with a pair of formidable challenges for the year ahead.
Mrs. Conejo challenged the organization to double its membership in the next two months.
"If each one of you will go out into the community and invite just one volunteer to our next meeting," Conejo explained, "we can accomplish that goal."
She also asked the group to identify one major fundraiser to organize and hold annually.
Contributions from the Ladies Auxiliary allowed Red River Regional Hospital to purchase hot trays for patient's meals as well as a floor scrubber in the past year.
The Ladies Auxiliary also voted on new leadership and installed a new slate of officers.
The president will be Wanda Haynes, first vice-president will be Oneta Baker, second vice-president is Charlene Hardy, third vice-president will be Doris Mayo, Sue Carpenter was elected secretary, Jeannette Reichle will serve as treasurer, Edna Collins will be the chaplain, while the organization's president over the past two years, Betty Lumpkins will now fulfill the role of parlimentarian.
Outgoing president Betty Lumpkins receives a gift and a warm thank you for her effort from Red River Regional Hospital CEO David Conejo (center) and Red River Regional Hospital CFO Jerry Panter.
