Melancon understands what working families need. He lives in Sherman with his wife Jackie and two sons, Chris and Alex. Glenn is a history professor, Boy Scout leader and church volunteer. Unlike like many Washington politicians, he’s not a banker or a lawyer. Melancon is running for Congress to fight for the average American.
“America is the land of opportunity,” Melancon said. “Texas families want to create a better future for themselves and their children. We need a Congressman in Washington who works for us, not for corporate CEOs.”
Melancon, the Democratic nominee for Congress in 2006, has laid out a detailed plan to strengthen America’s middle class. He focuses on the needs of average families — affordable healthcare for all Americans; clean, affordable energy; job and retirement security; and American security and respect.
“Texas families want Washington to get the job done. No more distractions. No more pandering to large donors,” Melancon said. “No other Americans could keep their jobs without any record of accomplishments, but Washington politicians do.”
Melancon emphasized the growing concerns of middle class Texans. Healthcare costs jumped again. Many people in District 4 have no health insurance. Gas prices remain at record highs and eat away at wages and profits. Salaries and benefits haven’t kept pace with inflation. Corporations are importing large numbers of illegal workers from Mexico and Latin America —so? what is the point?
“Our founding fathers gave us a wonderful gift—the right to vote,” Melancon said. “By using it wisely, we can create a brighter future for our children and grandchildren—a future based on justice and prosperity for all Americans.”
