Neblett Elementary School Ribbon Cutting
Numerous friends and family of Percy W. Neblett, along with educators and community leaders gathered last Friday for the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony of Percy W. Neblett Elementary School. Longtime educator and community activist, Neblett is remembered for moving students toward the goal of excellence. As a principal, Pauline Neblett said he was known as one who was small in statue and walked softly but carried a big stick!
His daughter, Charlotte shared her father’s work ethic - "He knew that the clear path to success was plain hard work and lots of it!"
She spoke of the privilege of having her father honored with a school named for him, but that the greater honor is yet to come…as those who walk the halls of Neblett Elementary graduate from high school and become our future teachers, doctors, business men and women.
Ruby Jo Williams, close friend and naming committee chair, reminded guests that this new building represents the life of a fine educator who was committed to his students.
"It was important to him that youth attended school and set and reached goals. Education was important to him," she said.
It was an absolutely delightful ceremony followed by a tour of the building, refreshments and lots of pictures.
Shown here are Sue Frazier, Charlotte Neblett Douglass, Ruby Jo Williams and Kate Whitfield looking on as Pauline Neblett "cuts" the ribbon at the dedication ceremony of Neblett Elementary.
Portrait Admired
Pauline Neblett, wife of the late, Percy W. Neblett, admires the portrait of her husband at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Percy W. Neblett Elementary. Pat Pierce completed the painting of Neblett just in time for the dedication and first day of school. The portrait will hang in the foyer of the new elementary school.
Superintendent, Dr. Al Hambrick, holds the art for Mrs. Neblett’s viewing.
Book Covers, Anyone?
All over the district families attended orientation night to meet the teachers and hear about their child’s school schedule.
Shown here is the Renshaw family at Piner Middle School checking out some of the book covers for sale before they go to the gym and meet the new principal.
Jefferson Legacy
Dylan Horton is a legacy. Both his mother and uncle attended Jefferson, so that makes him a legacy! And, the entire family, including grandparents and Uncle Andrew could not resist joining in the fun of taking Dylan to school for that momentous first day of kindergarten!
Dylan seemed to appreciate all the attention and no tears were shed as mom walked away, at least no tears from Dylan – not so sure about mom!
Welcome to Fifth Grade
Fourth grade to fifth grade is a big jump and students need support and encouragement as the pace picks up from elementary school to intermediate school. Students have a little more freedom and a lot more responsibility. At the Dillingham orientation night parents had a chance to inquire what is expected of their children and then be able to help them adjust to a more fast paced schedule.
Shown here are parents, Alba Muniz and children Katherine and Eric, and Rae Burks and children Anastasia and Gabrielle as they visit with homeroom teacher, Mrs. Winnett.
Welcome to First Grade
Six hundred and seven students filled the hallways of Wakefield School on Monday morning and principal, Steven Traw said that things went very smoothly.
"Our teachers are experienced at moving large numbers of students and making sure they are in the right place at the right time," Mr. Traw remarked.
Shown here is Kathryn Coyle and Kee’andre Rogers standing tall by this bulletin board which greets the first graders as they enter their classrooms.
Fish Orientation
Ninth grade students are treated to a half day of school on the Friday before school begins. This is a way for them to learn their way around the school before the sophomores, juniors and seniors enter the scene.
They are given a tour of the school, information on extra-curricular organizations they can join, receive refreshments and most fun of all, have a pep rally and skits.
Shown here are "fish" Ryan, Lexi, and Brooke purchasing Bearcat t-shirts from the cheerleaders.
Cheer Clinic
Sherman High School cheerleaders, Jordyn Herd and Roxy Marroquin hand out flyers advertising the cheer clinic which was held Saturday, August 25 for girls, ages 4-12.
The participants will perform at the Spirit Day Community Pep Rally and Bearcat Football game on September 7.
On A Safari
Crutchfield is on a safari this year – a Knowledge Safari – because they are, "Wild About Learning."
Shown here are third grade students, Gregory, Kiera, Makayla and Mackinzie as they explain the meaning of this fancy, decorated bulletin board designed and completed with loving care by Paul and Debbie Oswald.
