Denton Regional Medical Center recently announced the promotion of Judy Jeanes, RN,  as the Director of the Mayhill  Cancer Center at Denton Regional.  Scheduled to open in September 2007, the Mayhill Cancer Center will provide all aspects of medical oncology, hematology and radiation oncology.

Ms. Jeanes began work with Denton Regional 31 years ago as a Registered Nurse in the Medical/Oncology Department, and more recently as the Cancer Program Coordinator.  Well respected by her peers, physicians and administration, Judy is conscientious and thorough in working with patients and families as they deal with the diagnosis of cancer.  Judy possesses a high level of enthusiasm and personal initiative.  Her friendly, positive attitude, attention to detail and excellent technical and critical thinking skills has made her a well-recognized role model throughout the facility and our community. She freely gives of her time, abilities and compassion to the hospital and her coworkers.  She maintains high ethical standards and is always attentive and responsive to the needs of others. In 2001, Judy received the highest honor given by HCA, the Frist Humanitarian Award, given to employees who demonstrate commitment and dedication to care giving.

Judy has made positive contributions in the community.  Every year she donates countless hours to multiple projects sponsored by the American Cancer Society.  She has served an officer in our local chapter, as well as one of the chairpersons for the Relay for Life fundraiser.  In 2006, she was named Volunteer of the Year for the ACS in Denton / Tarrant Counties.

She organized smoking cessation classes to help fellow employees quit smoking.  She is involved with Reach to Recovery, a program to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and teaches breast self exam classes. Judy has worked with other volunteers to offer support groups for cancer survivors in the community.  She has been known to come to the hospital on her own time to visit with a newly diagnosed cancer patient - and as a survivor herself, she has a great deal to offer a new patient.

Judy was instrumental in the development of Denton Regional's  cancer program and it's  accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, writing policies, forming relationships with physicians, and looking for ways to better the program.  Denton Regional has held this accreditation since 2003.
