Join us at Galleria d'Arte as Carrie Garner presents visiting artist, Thad M. Morgan, in "A Modern Fauvism Movement" featuring new paintings from The 2007 Arbitrary Colourist Collection.

The celebration begins on Saturday, May 12, from 7pm to 10pm.

A self-described modern Fauvist, Morgan's paintings are indeed masterpieces of bold and vivid colors as he pays homage to the early 20th century Fauvist movement.

Fauvism was a brief but significant art movement that followed the Post-Impressionist era.  The most significant members of the movement included Henri Matisse, Maurice Vlamnick, and Andre Derain. The Fauvists implemented new ideas with their use of loud colors, new primitive elements, and wild ideas.  The Fauvists' introduction of new artistic values would change the direction of modern art forever, though the movement lasted only four years.

"My approach to painting is unorthodox in application," says the artist.  "I started a relationship with acrylics and its applications on a personal level.  I experimented with the medium through a trial and error period during which I had started to develop my own style."

Morgan is known for his expressive use of strong, bold, and vibrant color.  He uses the point stick ends of paintbrushes as his tools.

By exploring the symbolic use of form and movement, Morgan's paintings are studies of energy and the innate ability of color to influence feelings, trigger emotions, and alter moods.

"The pieces I produce capture a glimpse of a movement which is a device to aid the viewer to be engaged with the subject.  I use color to express myself in a way that I cannot verbally," says Morgan.

With the extensiveness of his subjects, Morgan's paintings appeal to a wide and eclectic audience.

Morgan was honored with a nomination in the acrylic paintings category for a 2005 ARTV Fine Art Award.  The awards show was nationally broadcast on the Bravo network and is one of the few red carpet media events of its kind.
