46 make Fortune 1000 list
DALLAS, TEXAS -- The 2007 Fortune 500 list was released and included 24 companies from the Dallas/Fort Worth area (of which 16 are Greater Dallas Chamber members). Another 22 companies from the Dallas/Fort Worth area made the remainder of the Fortune 1000, also released (of which 8 are Greater Dallas Chamber members). Dallas/Fort Worth claims 43 percent of Texas' top 500 and 41 percent of the remaining 1000.
The list contains two new entries (Gamestop and XTO Energy).
The DFW area has now moved ahead of Houston into the fourth position (from fifth) among US Metros with the most Fortune 500 companies located within a region. Texas remains the only state to claim two metro areas in the top five.
Dr. Lyssa Jenkens, PhD, Greater Dallas Chamber's chief economist stated, "DFW continues to gain Fortune 500 headquarters from all sectors--by growth and expansion of local companies as well as by relocations of headquarter operations. It is both a testament to the vibrant, diverse economy in DFW today as well as a natural progression for this region that is so well-recognized internationally for our strengths in advanced services and headquarter operations."
