Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Continuing Education Department is gearing up for another great summer!  Since we are the place to go to plan activities for your child, we have a variety of programs in the works.

As always, we have the American Red Cross Learn to Swim programs with American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors who are also trained Lifeguards. Classes will be available Monday – Friday for $35 for 5 hours of certified  Each week, we offer a number of different activities for a variety of age groups. Every year, we look for more programs to offer educational and enjoyable activities throughout the summer months.  In addition to Learn to Swim programs, we will be offering Improving Math Skills, Reading, Keyboarding, KNEX, Science Camp, Krafty Kids Corner, Manners: How to be Ladies and Gentlemen, Horsemanship programs, First Aid training programs for children and more!

Every summer, Southeastern’s Continuing Education Department provides an opportunity for children 2 to come to the campus to "experience SOSU” with Kids at College.  This day camp encourages the development of an attitude of "when I go to college" rather than "if I go to college" among Kids at College “alumni.”  Many previous attendees are already saying that they are looking forward to going to college again this summer--the 7th year for Kids at College.

As each year gets bigger and better, changes are made to accommodate these growing needs. Based on the popularity and special requests, we have restructured the program to include 3 year olds into the Mini-Kids at College. Children ages 3 & 4 will be Exploring the Past: Looking at Dinosaurs from 8:30-10:30 a.m.  The scheduled dates are July 10-14, Monday – Friday.  Jennifer Valtierra and Mary Ellis will be leading children in hands-on activities, songs, and crafts.  The class size is limited to only 12 children. If demand requires, an additional section may be scheduled on the following week.  The course fee for this unique program is only $59.

Children ages 5 – 12 will be Exploring the Past: Learning About Ancient Civilizations.  Ages 5 & 6 will be having a younger, smaller version of the program.  Jennifer Valtierra and Mary Ellis will be leading these children in hands-on crafts, songs, and structured play to learn about the past with a variety of interesting activities including: Egyptians, Vikings, and much more. The scheduled dates are July 10-14, Monday – Friday, from 11 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. A maximum of only 16 children will be allowed to attend this section. If demand requires, an additional section may be scheduled on the following week.  The course fee for this program is only $89.

Ages 7 – 12 will have a more extensive day, which will allow area teachers to lead in physical games including the Olympics, hands-on activities including making a life-size African warrior shield, building a mummy, and more.  Children will be busy having fun and learning about Vikings, Egyptians, Greeks, Aztecs, and Africans.  Children will also have the opportunity to experience samples of food from past civilizations.

We are continuing to develop the content with an excellent group of educators including: Cary Ammons, Kim Cole, Natalie Johnson, Tanya Lindley, Helen Lowrance, Dot Scott, and Shawnte Wrice.  Shelley Allen and Cindy Goetz will also be working with the children to provide assistance in this fun-filled educational activity.

Kids at College has combined the ages differently based on the needs and skills required as a part of the learning experience.  Ages 7 & 8 will be meeting on July 10-14. Ages 9 & 10 will be on campus on July 17-21. Lastly, Ages 11 & 12 will be meeting on July 24-29. Each of these age groups are required to bring a sack lunch and attend from 8:30-2:00 p.m. on Monday – Friday. Parents will be sent a packet of information upon registration.  Children will be receiving a Kids at College t-shirt, insurance, and all materials included in the registration fee of $119.
