Members of the Texoma Friends of the National Rifle Association (NRA) gathered recently to award $3600 to the Grayson County College Criminal Justice Program. The funds will go toward improvements at the college's pistol range.

Criminal Justice Program Coordinator Dwayne Barber submitted a request to the local chapter for assistance and the group agreed to award GCC the funds. Students in the Criminal Justice program and the Police Academy use the pistol range for gun safety instruction and shooting practice.

At the check presentation, Barber described several improvements that he would like to accomplish with the gift.

"This generous gift will go a long way toward needed improvements at the pistol range," said Barber. "This award, combined with the work we were able to accomplish with their past gifts, will enable us to make general improvements as well as possibly adding a target system that will help with turning or moving shooting skills," Barber remarked.

NRA representatives said the funds donated are generated through the clubs' annual banquet.
