Wilson N. Jones Medical Center Foundation awarded $26,000 in scholarships at a Community Scholarship Awards Banquet on April 28 held at Austin College Wright Center. The community scholarship fund was initiated in 1996 by a group of hospital employees and auxiliary members.  Each year the Foundation awards a $1,000 scholarship to a senior at each of the area high schools in the Wilson N. Jones Medical Center service area.

Patrick Flynn, President & CEO of Wilson N. Jones Medical Center, welcomed the students and their guests and expressed congratulations on behalf of the hospital and Foundation.  Mr. Flynn added “As you start to think about career choices, my first hope is that you would consider a healthcare profession.  My second hope is that you will come back to this area after college, because you are the lifeblood of our community.  And my third hope is that you will come to work for WNJ.”

Beverly Rushing, WNJ Foundation Board Chair, offered her congratulations and added “I would encourage each of you to remember to give back to our community as you become successful in our careers.”

Mr. Flynn and Mrs. Rushing presented each student with the scholarship award and a laundry bag filled with a box of laundry detergent and fabric softener.

The following students received $1,000 scholarships: Amber Colemen, Anna; Mary Shearer, Bells; Skylar Hunnicutt, Bonham; Jodi Brown, Calera; Kenda Mitchusson, Callisburg; Meghan Pittman, Collinsville; Amanda Dobbs, Denison; Crystal Hough, Dodd City; Christabelle Daradal, Durant; Derek Bohannon, Ector; Jennifer Turner, Gainesville; Austin Landry, Gunter; Marissa Lloyd, Honey Grove; Jessica Burchfield, Howe; Elizabeth Robinson, Leonard; Joshua Randles, Pottsboro; Jaden Slagle, S&S; Katie Skidmore, Sam Rayburn; Megan Malone, Savoy; Alaina Deans, Sherman; Kate Ritchie, Texoma Christian School; Brittney Reynolds, Tom Bean; Mandy Robertson, Trenton; Kimberly Rekieta, Van Alstyne; Coen Wilson, Whitesboro; Erica Vickers, Whitewright.

Additionally, the Jack and Carolyn Noble scholarship was awarded at the banquet.  The Jack and Carolyn Noble Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by a group of community leaders who designated a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded annually to a Sherman High School graduating senior planning to pursue a career either in the field of education or health care.  Cary McDougal made the presentation.

Jack and Carolyn Noble were described as two people who have had a profound influence on young people in Sherman by their devoted years of serving our public school system as both teacher and administrator. Their benevolence has carried over into playing a significant role in the support of health care in our community as well.  McDougal then announced Hillary Little as this year’s Jack and Carolyn Noble Scholarship recipient.
