Grow more Green Pride on Beautification Day

DENTON (UNT), Texas - The University of North Texas will host its third annual Great UNT Cleanup and Beautification Day on April 2 (Saturday) in keeping with the spirit of the Great American Cleanup scheduled to take place in cities and states across the nation from March through May.

Staff, faculty, administrators and students will join forces and volunteer their time between 9 a.m. and noon for "spring cleaning" activities, including:

·        Removing and regrading flower beds along Avenue C

·        Replanting flower beds, pulling weeds and gathering litter around the Murchison Performing Arts Center

·        Planting flower beds around the Hurley Administration Building

·        Planting about 60 trees around the duck pond at the Eagle Point Campus

·        Canvassing the university campus, Carriage Square and Fry Street to clean up litter

Event organizers are working to get as many faculty, staff, students and alumni as possible involved in the beautification efforts.

"This is an excellent opportunity for faculty, staff and students to build community and to show pride in our university," says Bob Killam, administrative services officer in the Department of Biological Sciences and this year's event coordinator. "Many improvements have been made to the campus grounds in the past year such as the new Willis Library fountain, attractive landscaping and new campus lighting. It behooves all of us to keep our campus home clean."
