Grayson County Options for Celebrating Halloween

With Halloween in the very near future (Thursday), it is probably time to decide what to do this year. There are church functions, community parties, school carnivals and more. With all the choices out there, it may be hard to choose where to celebrate this year. Here you will find a listing of the goings-on in Grayson County for this year’s Halloween. Most events are free unless otherwise noted.

In Sherman:
-The Sherman Police Department festival will be at the Sherman Municipal Building from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, October 31. There will be trick-or-treating, games, and live music. If you have a business and woudl like to sign up to have a booth click here
-First Baptist Church, 400 S. Travis, will have a festival called “Under the Big Top” on Halloween in the Family Life Center Gym from 5:45-7 p.m. Kids can play games and win prizes. Costumes are optional.
-Discovery Pentecostal Church of God, 823 S. Gribble, will host a presentation called “A Journey through Hell” at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
-West Sherman Baptist Church, 1830 W. Washington, will host a Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on Halloween night.
-Fairview Baptist Church, 222 W. Taylor, will host a Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on Halloween night.
-The Great Roo Boo is coming to Austin College again this year on October 31 from 6-8 p.m. Candy, games and prizes are what you will find this year at the “mall” at Austin College.

In Denison:
-East Baptist Church, corner of E. 5th and Sears, will host a Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on October 30 for kids through the 5th grade. No costumes please.
-Hyde Park Baptist, 2501 Sunset, will host a Fall Festival from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on October 31.
-Parkside Baptist, 301 N. Lillis, will host its first “Trunk or Treat” Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on October 31. Church members will park their cars in front of the church and kids can go from trunk to trunk of the cars collecting treats. There will also be games and food.
-Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, 2020 S. Scullin, will have a Fall Festival from 7-9 p.m. on October 31.
-Ongoing Denison Jaycee’s Haunted High School at the old school on Main St.

In Savoy:
-First Baptist Church of Savoy will hold its annual Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on October 31. There will be games, candy, prizes and refreshments.

In Pottsboro:
-Lakeway United Methodist will have a “Trunk or Treat” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on October 31. There will be free hotdogs and lots of candy.
-Ongoing Haunted Hayride at 3M Ranch

In Whitewright:
-Whitewright Volunteer Fire Department will host a Haunted House at the old middle school. The event will be open on October 31-November 2 from 7:30 to midnight. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for kids.

In Van Alstyne:
-Van Alstyne Downtown Merchants and Volunteer Firefighters have come together to sponsor a Haunted House and Hayride. The event will run October 30 and 31 from 6-10 p.m. The event location is one of the empty buildings at Armortek.
