Haskell man indicted on two felony charges; TSCRA Special Ranger heads investigation

Haskell, Texas - A Haskell man has been indicted by the Haskell County grand jury on two felony charges of hindering secured creditors and stealing more than 100 head of cattle. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Scott Williamson heads the investigation.

Mandy Tol Mayfield, 39, was indicted on a first degree felony charge after he failed to produce more than 600 head of cattle to Wes Tex Feed Yard, Inc. after he financed the cattle and signed feeding agreements with the company.

Mayfield was additionally indicted on a third degree felony charge after he stole more than 130 head of cattle from John Lee Wilde of Munday, Texas.

"It is important to understand that not all agriculture theft involves a trailer full of cattle," said Williamson. "We deal with numerous cattle and equipment thefts that involve fraudulent investment deals or bad bank accounts. Remember before going into business or partnering with someone to do your homework by checking references and that person's past business history."

Mayfield could face up to a $10,000 fine and/or up to life in prison.

TSCRA has 29 special rangers stationed strategically throughout Texas and Okla. who have in-depth knowledge of the cattle industry and are trained in all facets of law enforcement. All are commissioned as Special Rangers by the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or the Okla. State Bureau of Investigation.

TSCRA is a 132-year-old trade organization and is the largest livestock association in Texas. TSCRA has more than 15,000 members who manage approximately 4 million head of cattle on 51.5 million acres of range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Okla. TSCRA provides law enforcement services, livestock inspection, legislative and regulatory advocacy and educational opportunities for its members and the industry.
