FANNIN COUNTY, TEXAS -- The Fannin Bank presented County Judge Butch Henderson in the Commissioner’s Court meeting today a deed for the building in Windom, Texas, that formerly housed the Fannin Bank office there. The Board of Directors voted unanimously to donate the building and land to the County for their use as a sheriff’s substation.

Chairman of the Board Ray Clark said that the intention of the ownership of the bank as demonstrated by all the directors was to give something to the community when the bank moved to new offices in Honey Grove. "We felt that a sheriff’s substation would benefit Windom and the whole eastern part of Fannin County. We hope that everyone will benefit from having increased law enforcement presence there."

Clark went on to say that the Sheriff’‘s Department mentioned they might discuss with the City of Bonham about basing an ambulance in the building also. This would reduce the response time to Windom, Honey Grove, Ladonia, and Telephone considerably.

Vice Chairman Bryan Peeler told of the history of the building. "The building was designed by Mike McDonald and the general contractor was his father, Tom McDonald. When it opened it greatly expanded, the banking facility in Windom and the services offered. I remember well the dedication of that facility and know that the best use of the building now is to continue serving the folks in Windom and eastern Fannin County." He added further, "Sheriff Moore has told us that he wants to be in Windom and the County Treasurer Mike Towery toured the facility and readily assured us that the County wanted the building and would use it to serve the people in Windom and Honey Grove."

The brick veneer building was constructed in 1974 and the bank opened for business in April of 1975. It sits on the Northeast corner of State Highway 56 and Farm to Market 1743. The Fannin Bank has offices in Bonham and Honey Grove and is a locally owned community bank based in Bonham.
