Printed From North Texas e-News == ntxe-news.com Lifestyles Van Alstyne Voices Toastmasters is planning its Charter Party for Friday, May 9 at the South Campus of Grayson County Community College. Join us at 7:00 p.m. as we celebrate the completion of charter requirements and our official establishment as a member club of Toastmasters International. Plans for the celebration were made after the regular club meeting on Monday May 5. District 50 officers will come from Dallas to present the club charter. Former District Governor Michael Goforth will be one of the speakers for the celebration.
The May 5 meeting of the Van Alstyne Voices Toastmasters was called to order by Juanita Hazelton, Vice President of Public Relations. She introduced the theme, “Cinco de Mayo,” and the word of the day, “disparity,” meaning “difference.” Gail Banks spoke on “Best Candidate for the Job.” Steve Smith spoke on “How Many Degrees Are You Removed From…”
Dorothy Bishop provided a bag of props for Table Topics appropriate for the theme. She called on Carol Smith to describe or demonstrate the Mexican hat dance. Joy Cole was asked to tell how chocolate has affected her life. Juanita Hazelton was asked to describe how she felt after winning a hot pepper eating contest.
Steve Smith demonstrated how to use maracas. General Evaluator Carol Smith next introduced Carol Smith who evaluated Gail Banks and Joy Cole who evaluated Steve Smith. Carol Smith and Steve Smith shared Timekeeper duties. Joy Cole served as grammarian for the meeting. In the absence of President Matt Sullivan, Juanita Hazelton set the agenda for the next regular meeting on Monday May 12.
Toastmasters International is a not-for-profit educational organization whose mission is to help people develop their communication skills. Toastmasters can help people build their self-confidence and develop speaking skills in a friendly, positive environment.
