AUSTIN - James E. Froelich, III, D.O., a Bonham family physician, has been honored by his peers for his 24 years of service in the House of Delegates of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA).

An honorary certificate was presented April 26 during the 63rd Annual Meeting of the TOMA House of Delegates, held at the Sheraton Austin Hotel in Austin.

In his 24 years of service in the House of Delegates, the primary governance body of TOMA, Dr. Froelich has actively participated in the discussion and debate of policy and administrative resolutions considered by that body. These resolutions determine the advocacy by the association for the betterment of quality health care, access to medical care, and the safety of the public seeking osteopathic medical services for citizens across the State of Texas. His participation has helped determine the direction of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and its advocacy for the health care of all Texans.

Certified in Family Practice and an Aviation Medical Examiner, Dr. Froelich has been in private practice at Family Care Medical Clinic in Bonham since 1982. He is affiliated with Northeast Medical Center and has served as chief of staff for four separate terms. In the mid-80s, he established the Leonard Family Medicine Clinic for the community of Leonard and successfully recruited a physician to take over that clinic.

A past president of TOMA, Dr. Froelich is current chair and member of several committees and serves as a TOMA delegate to the American Osteopathic Association's House of Delegates. He is active in his divisional society, TOMA District 13, serving as its president for six years. Other memberships include the Texas Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians; the American Osteopathic Association, in which he serves on the Bureau of State Government Affairs; and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, where he was elected program co-chair for that organization's fall 2008 convention. In addition, he is a member of the Texas Medical Board's Health Screening Policy Advisory Committee.

Dr. Froelich earned his D.O. degree in 1981 from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth.

The mission of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association is: to promote health care excellence for the people of Texas; advance the philosophy and principles of osteopathic medicine; and to loyally embrace the family of the osteopathic profession and serve their unique needs.

The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) has represented osteopathic physicians in the State of Texas since its founding in 1900. It currently represents about 2,500 members, including 493 osteopathic medical students at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. There are 2,887 licensed osteopathic physicians practicing medicine for the citizens of 163 counties in Texas, and that includes growing numbers of women, Hispanic and African-American osteopathic physicians. The Association is headquartered in the historic Bartholomew-Robinson building located at 1415 Lavaca Street in Austin, TX. Robert J. "Sam" Tessen is the Executive Director.
