The American Red Cross will offer a workshop on Wilderness First Aid May 17-18 to prepare participants for first aid emergencies in an outdoor setting. The 16-hour course is designed for those who work, live or play in remote areas such as rural areas, wilderness and back-country environments. This course contains the module "When Help is Delayed" and provides an excellent program for boaters, camp workers, scouts, hikers and other outdoor sports enthusiasts. It meets requirements of the Boy Scouts of America for Camp Philmont and meets American Camping Association accreditation standards. Basic components include assessment, urgent first aid treatment and basic first aid. No pre-requisites are required; however, recommended minimum age is 15 due to the serious nature of the course content and scenarios. Persons completing the course will receive a 3-year American Red Cross certification in Basic First Aid. Class will be limited to a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20 persons. Advance registration is required so that the course materials can be ordered; cost is $130. Deadline to register is April 30.
