Pond Management Workshop set May 16 at Bonham State Park
By Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District
May 16, 2008

This year we have an exciting fishpond seminar organized to assist you with your pond and lake management.  This will be a unique experience since we will be doing a hook and line survey at the Bonham State Park.  No fishing license is required at the State Park.

You will be shown how to do this type of survey at your pond or lake.  It will be fun and informative.  We have asked the Noble Foundation to assist us this year and are looking forward to Mike Porter and Steven Smith as they present the fishing portion of the program.

Cory Mason, Waterfowl Biologist with the Texas Parks & Wildlife will speak regarding waterfowl populations in the North Texas area and how fisheries management can affect your waterfowl habitat.

Bring a rod & reel & terminal tackle for each participant in your group to help survey the fishery.  Recommended terminal tackle include snap swivels, small split shot weights, # 8 hooks & small floats for bluegill fishing & your favorite lures for bass fishing such as roadrunners, jigs, spinners, crank baits, top water plugs, jerk baits or plastic worms.

Dress appropriately for fishing & potentially wet, muddy, hot conditions.  Consider treating your clothes with insect repellent.
