April has everyone thinking about springtime and the Creative Arts Center is no exception. On Saturday, April 26, the arts center hosts its first annual Red River Art Fest & Run for the Arts. This festival will include a variety of activities and provide fun and entertainment for the whole family. Best of all, admission is free.
At 8:30 a.m., there is a Fun Run about a mile in length, followed by a 5K at 9:00 a.m. The arts and crafts vendor tent will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with many different types of items available. A Silent Auction will be held inside the center all day and kids activities abound - face painting, coloring, paint-your-own tempera stands, chalk art and a bounce house make this a great day for the kids.
Two contests are also being held. The Painted Chair contest awards $350 to first place. The entry fee is your decorated chair - donated to the arts center - which will be judged and sold at auction. Second place pays $75 and third place $50, so everyone is invited to find a chair and get painting. From noon to 2:00 p.m., there will be a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest which also pays $350 to first, $75 to second and $50 to third place winners.
At 5:30 p.m., there is a BBQ dinner of brisket and the works. Tickets are only $8 and are on sale now. During the dinner, the top 5 Painted Chair winners and a few other items will be auctioned.
Since admission to this event is free, there's no reason not to visit the Creative Arts Center on Saturday, April 26.
