Local barbecue fans will have another reason to Rally Round the BBQ pit this summer as a popular annual event now has a new beneficiary.
The Rally Round Greenville BBQ Cook-Off, scheduled for Sept. 20-21 in downtown Greenville, will benefit the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation.
Cook-Off organizer David Slaughter said the non-sanctioned event should be a fun, relaxed experience for each participant even as they benefit a great cause.
The Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation is an organization that raises awareness, to honor, and to empower the wounded United States military warriors, enabling them to assimilate back to daily life upon returning from combat. They seek to provide wounded veterans injured from combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan with funding to defray the basic costs of living incurred, as a result of the short and long-term care of those injuries.
The Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau conducts the annual Rally 'Round Greenville Festival, which will once again feature a Friday Night Kick-Off Concert/ Street Dance with Emerald City Band. Other components of the event include music all day Saturday and Sunday on the Bud Light Stage, Kids Alley, an Art show, crafts and food vendors of all kinds, and the
Cotton patch classic bicycle ride.
