Local equestrians, families and youth can lasso up some fun beginning this month with the first of four events in Greenville organized by the Texas Pony of the Americas group.

March 23 is the date of an open Inter-breed competition at the Top Rail Cowboy Church, 262 Horseman's Road.

"They are projecting at least 25 entrants from their own organization, but really want to reach out to our local community to participate," said Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau Tourism Director Milton Babb. "They will also hold events here April 13-14, May 18 and June 22-23. They describe these as open horse shows and playdays open to all breeds of horses. It is a family-oriented event. Spectators who might like to learn
more are also welcome."

The Texas Pony of the Americas was organized in 1964 to provide family friendly and fun show venues for members and exhibitors of Ponies of the Americas, a breed introduced in 1954 as a pony breed which is an Arabian /Appaloosa /Shetland pony cross.

This will be the clubıs first time to hold an event in Greenville.

"They noted our access to Interstate-30, affordability and central location as attributes," Babb said. "In addition, we hope to show them the friendliness of our community as a reason to return."
