Several area volunteer fire departments and law enforcement officers responded to the scene to find a large two-story house which was completely engulfed in flames. Two vehicles belonging to the homeowners were near the residence and one of those was also burning.
Law enforcement officers and firefighters checked the surrounding area to look for occupants who might have made it outside the burning home, but could not locate anyone.
Firefighters had almost finished extinguishing the flames from the house when a call came in to Fannin County Dispatch reporting a church fire in Honey Grove. Honey Grove Fire Department members responded to that fire and arrived to find it also to be fully engulfed in flames.
Later Sunday morning, Investigators from the State Fire Marshall’s Office arrived to assist Fannin County Investigators with the residential fire. Firefighters and Investigators located the remains of two individuals, believed to be the residents. The bodies were sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
