Melissa -- If the new Melissa City Hall seems a little oversized for this Collin County community, consider the trend.  The 2000 Census lists 1,350 residents, but the population is expected to top 5,000 in the 2010 Census, a staggering increase of almost 400%.

Located just north of booming twin cities McKinney and Frisco, plus having immediate access to State Hwy 121, Hwy 5 and U.S. 75, Melissa is just now beginning to experience an unprecedented surge of growth.  It would seem this is only the start of things to come.

City of Melissa officials proudly threw open the doors of the community's 40,000-square-foot Melissa City Hall on Saturday, July 5, and a deservedly proud populace filled the facility to look over their city's new headquarters.

Four departments were brought under one roof in the spacious complex that also contains the Melissa Public Library.  The municipal courtroom and library dominate the first floor of the building.  City administration, Melissa Police Department, a community meeting room and a spectacular city council chambers are all located on the second floor. The Melissa City Council can conveniently exit the towering council chambers and enter a much smaller room to privately deliberate during executive sessions.
