Honey Grove, Texas -- Funeral services for Rev. Edwin William Gorom, Jr., 88, of Honey Grove, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2010 at First Christian Church in Honey Grove under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.  Rev. Gary Gibbs will officiate.  Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Bunton Cemetery in Dale, Texas.  Bro. Gorom went home to be with the Lord Monday night, Feb. 1, 2010 at Honey Grove Nursing Center. 

Edwin was born August 25, 1921 in Fort Stockton, Texas, the son of Edwin William Gorom, Sr. and Ladonia Minerva Ryan Gorom.  He attended Brite Divinity College at Texas Christian University in the early 1940’s, the Institute of Religion in Houston in the 1950’s and received a certificate in Pastoral Work at TCU in 1958.  He married Lanier Carter, July 8, 1952 in Lockhart, TX.  She preceded him in death, Oct. 23, 2007. 

Rev. Gorom pastored churches in Ladonia and Gober and has been at First Christian Church in Honey Grove for 49 years.  He served as Chaplain at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham for 40 years.  Bro. Gorom was a member of the Ministral Alliance and the Rebekah’s Lodge in Paris.  He enjoyed working in the yard and reading and still had sermons for 50 odd years.  He was a loving husband, father and friend. 

Bro. Gorom is survived by ~

Daughter, Mary Nell Gorom of Honey Grove

Sister, Mary Watson of Midland

4 nephews and 2 nieces

Sisters-in-law, Mary Gorom of Alexander City, Alabama

            Blanche Carter of San Antonio

            Lanelle Gabriel of Irving. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Flowers, Garland Stanford, Thomas Holmes, Jimmy Hevron and W. T. Gilbert. 

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Honey Grove or Bertha Voyer Memorial Library in Honey Grove.   

The family will receive friends at First Christian Church in Honey Grove from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Friday.
