Denison, TX – During a long and distinguished U.S. diplomatic career, Bruce Knotts has served in Greece, Sudan, Kenya, India, Pakistan, Ivory Coast, Zambia, and the Gambia.  And now he serves the cause of Unitarian Universalism worldwide as head of the Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU-UNO).  Red River Unitarian Universalist Church will bring to our area his message that small groups of committed people can change the world. 

Knotts has been heavily involved with the international Criminal Court.  He continues to advocate for the women and children of Sudan.  Knotts, an openly gay man, has successfully brought to the international stage the issue of equal rights for LGBT people.  His newest initiative is shaping global climate change policies at the United Nations and examining what role faith based organizations play in forming those policies.  Knotts has represented the United States at embassies in more than 20 countries and served on the UN High Commission on Refugees. Knotts got to witness terrorism first hand.  In 1998, he survived the bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi.  Dynamic and personable, Knotts brings stories of success and a message of empowerment to both adults and youth.

Mr. Knotts will speak at Red River Unitarian Universalist Church during their Fifth Sunday Forum program, Sunday, January 31st at 11:15 a.m.  His presentation “Faith to Change the World” will include ample time for an open conversation with the audience.  The morning concludes with a chili lunch.  This special lecture is free and open to the public. The church is at 102 W. Harrison, one block south of the intersection of Spur 503 and Hwy 69 in Denison.
