Kathryn’s Texas Kitchen

Allen, Texas, is one of the many burgeoning towns of North Texas.  Funny, how I remember it as a quick blink of the eye when travelling home to Bonham from my 12 years of living in the Texas capitol of Austin.  Allen is definitely not that same quick blink of the eye and it hasn’t been for a very long time.

On the weekend of November 6-7, 2009, Allen, Texas, carved a new landmark.  It was the grand opening of the Allen Community Outreach Center, located at 801 E. Main St., which began as a vision three years ago.  Residents of Allen, Lucas and Fairview are now being served by this center.

After the dedication and ribbon cutting, the grand opening featured musicians, face painters, an inflatable slide, a DJ for dancing, and free hot dogs, chips and drinks.

Atmos Energy Company donated 1500 hot dogs that employee volunteers and family members grilled on their giant cooking grilling machine Big Tex for this civic event.

Tours were also available of the ACO Food Pantry, their new administrative offices, and the renovated ACO Resale Shop.

Throughout the event, Boy Scouts were constantly arriving with truck loads of donated items that they unloaded and carried to the Resale Shop.

Even though the sky was dreary and the air was chilly, many folks showed up to celebrate the opening of this great community hallmark.

I didn’t include a recipe for grilling hotdogs, but if you need one, e-mail me at frankandkath@hotmail.com.  Personally, I think it’s the additions to hotdogs that make them the all-American favorite dish.

Christmas recipes are on upcoming plans for Kathryn’s Texas Kitchen.  Let me know if y’all have any requested favorites and I’ll be glad to research them for you.

Until next time…

Bon appétit!
