The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team dropped a 98-60 decision in its season opener to host Drury on Friday night at the Weiser Gym in Springfield, Missouri.
Drury (2-0) landed four players in double figures in the win including
Lindsay Ballweg, who scored a game-high 23 points to pace the Panthers.
Caitlin Shouse added 16 points, Amanda Gibson and JačNell Jones each scored 10. Jones also distributed eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Panthers shot 64.3% from the field and outrebounded the Lions by a 42 to 24 margin in the win.
A&M-Commerce (0-1) was led by Nakazi Glover, who scored 15 points in the defeat and junior Mattilyn McIntyre came off the bench to score 14 points including 11 in the first half. Junior Genevieve Campbell also was in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Tiffany Mitchell added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lions found itself behind early as host Drury went on a 10-2 run on the strength of two 3 pointers to start the game and never looked back. The Panthers hit nine - 3 pointers and hit 76% of their shots from the field in the first 20 minutes to take a 57-33 lead at the halftime break.
The Lions will close out its opening weekend when they take on No. 1
Michigan Tech at 3 pm in its final game of the 2009 Drury/Lady Panther Sleep Inn Classic.
