The Board of Trustees of the Tom Bean Independent School District held the regular monthly board meeting on Monday, November 16, 2009. Vice-President, David Harrison called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and Jimmy Jones led the invocation.
The minutes of October 19, 2009 and October 26, 2009 along with the Financial Reports were approved as presented. The Budget Amendment Report was given by Business Manager, Peggy Miller.
Student of the Month recognition and plaques were presented to the recipients from each campus. Teachers selected the candidates based on their attitude, behavior, and character. The recipients included: Bailey Yale (EL); Zack Bankston (MS); and Jessica Boren (HS).
Each administrator presented the School Board with plaques engraved with the Campus Accountability assigned by the Texas Education Agency. The plaques will be displayed at their respective campuses with pride and honor.
Each of the campus principals gave a report with the total enrollment,
attendance, discipline, number of walk-through evaluations, number of teacher absences, newsletters, and current events for November.
John Orozco gave the curriculum report which stated one goal of the Tom Bean ISD is to vertically align all core courses from PK-12. In his report, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills of technology applications will be supplemented and aligned as well. Tom Bean ISD has textbook committees on each campus. The textbooks will be selected in March, 2010. He has attended several meeting concerning curriculum and federal reports.
Dean Campbell gave the transportation report on the accident that occurred in Luella along with the current situation of our transportation fleet.
The regular scheduled December board meeting was moved from December 21, 2009 to December 14, 2009 because of Christmas break.
The Board of Trustees of Tom Bean ISD approved Resolution #003 to submit all 76 votes to L.D. Byrd as their candidate for the Grayson Appraisal District Board of Directors.
The Board of Trustees also approved the one time staff incentive for the staff of Tom Bean ISD.
The Standards of Operation were approved for the Team of 8 to include the Superintendent and the Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Kathy Garrison, Superintendent, explained the Gold Performance Acknowledgements received by the Texas Education Agency.
The Elementary earned 4 out of 7 categories evaluated which included comparable improvement in Mathematics, commended in Mathematics, commended in Writing, and commended in Science.
The Middle School earned 5 out of the 8 categories evaluated which included comparable improvement in Reading/English Language Arts, commended in Reading and English Language Arts, commended in Writing, commended in Science, and commended in Social Studies.
The High School earned 5 out of the 14 categories evaluated even though some of the evaluated categories at the High School level did not pertain to Tom Bean High School students. They received College Ready Graduates, commended in Social Studies, comparable improvement in Mathematics, Texas Success Initiative in English Language Arts, and Texas Success Initiative in Mathematics.
All three campuses did a great job of going “above and beyond” the expectations in order to meet the standards set forth by the state.
The students and teachers are commended for their effort and hard work.
The Tom Bean ISD has employed four new paraprofessionals. We are proud to welcome to our family Mrs. Glenda Schultz, Special Education aide, Mrs. Carla Goss Pre-K aide, Mrs. Amy Gordon, LVN Nurse, and Twilene Sanders, the Middle School Special Education aide.
