The Van Alstyne Library will not have Thursday @ the Movies during November.  We will have a Christmas movie on Thursday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m.  Bring your own tea or coke and we will provide the popcorn.  Basic computer classes will resume on Thursday, December 3, at 6:00 p.m.  Call to register at 903-482-5991.

From the Desk of Judy Spence:  Teen Council’s Thanksgiving Bake Sale is just what you need to lighten your work load at Thanksgiving.  Pre-order NOW at the library these traditional favorites:  Sweet Potato Pie, Apple Pie, Rum Cake, Pecan Pie, and Pumpkin Pie.  Pre-orders must be turned in and pre-paid by Thursday, November 19, at 8:00 p.m.  Or, you can come by the library on Wednesday November 25, for the general bake sale, from 11:00-5:30 p.m.

From the Desk of DeAnna Willman:  Here at the library, we are excited to tell you that we are working on providing a resource just for our homeschoolers within the community.  Our vertical file is being filled with topics, ideas, and various other resources to help you with thosespecial lessons you want to do to compliment your curriculum.  It is also valuable for those co-op classes that one needs to plan on occasion.  Be sure to come by to check out what we have and to let us know how we can continue to improve to better meet your needs.

Last Thursday evening, 25 kids and 20 parents joined us at the library for a Pajama Story Time.

The variety of pajamas seen that evening varied from the ordinary to the usual kids’ picks, to the very unusual.  We were privileged to have author Debbie Reece share with us a reading of her book, The Christmas Pumpkin, as well as various activities that went with the theme of her book.

The kids joined in on the reading by providing sound effects as the story went along.  Debbie  also shared with us the inspiration for her book.  She then sold and autographed books for those who chose to buy them, while others munched on the wonderful goodies that were available.  In keeping with the theme of pumpkins, there was pumpkin fudge, pumpkin cookies, and pumpkin muffins to sample, along with other delicious treats and hot apple cider.

Parents, make plans to join us at the library next month when we will show the movie, The Polar Express, and serve popcorn and hot cocoa.  Contact DeAnna Willman for more information.
