Joseph Ellison “J.E.” Meade passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 08, 2009 in Paris, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at Self Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, November 10, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove, Texas.

J.E. was born on October 30, 1923 to Molly Scott Meade and George Meade in Honey Grove, Texas.  He married his wife, Jean Meade, on January 29, 1948.

J.E. attended school in Honey Grove, Texas.  Upon receipt of his diploma, he joined the United States Army Air Corp where he served in Europe during World War II from 1943 to 1946.  It was from those years that he told many stories of travelling by plane continuously between England and France as a radio operator.  After returning from the war, he met the woman who became his wife, Jean, with whom he reared five children.

A lifetime Texan, J.E. dearly enjoyed his work as a farmer and rancher.  He ran a fertilizer business in Honey Grove for many years as well as working with many area farmers in the farm and ranch industry.

Survivors of Mr. Meade include his wife, Jean Meade; his sister, Lois Killingsworth of Honey Grove, Texas, his five children and their spouses, Greg Meade of Los Angeles, California, Steve and Marie Meade of Paris, Texas, Karen Barnett of Paris, Texas, Randy and Nancy Meade of Chicota, Texas, and Joel Meade of Honey Grove, Texas; his grandchildren  Valerie Speer, Wendy Barnett, Katharine Ashby, Dustin Meade, and Morgan Meade; his great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ava, and Colt, and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank the people of the Honey Grove community for their continuous calls and support of Mr. Meade over the past several months.
