Anna 10, Bonham 0

Bonham -- From the very beginning, this was fate's team.  And fate was in a foul mood.

The curtain came down on a difficult season for the Bonham Purple Warriors Friday night with a loss to Anna.  An 0-10 year came to an end with a symbolic 10-0 loss.

Some teams get all the breaks.  And for some teams, the ball always bounces the other way.  It was that kind of year for the Bonham Warriors.

With the possible exception of Paris, Bonham matched up well with the athletes on the other side of the line of scrimmage all season long.  It was the same story Friday night against Anna in the district finale.  But Anna made plays when they had to and Bonham misfired at the most inopportune moments.

Anna led Bonham 7-0 at the half on the strength of one play.

Wide receiver Manuel Martinez got inside a Bonham defender on a slant pattern and raced 37 yards to pay dirt midway through the first quarter.  Anna threatened again late in the opening period, however T.J. King broke through to block a short-range field goal.

On the other hand, Bonham had opportunities but they never  found a way to cash them in.

Chase Gregory got lose on a pass from Kyle Washington and gave the Warriors a first-and-10 at the Coyotes 37-yard line.

Anna's defense held.

Anna muffed a punt late in the second stanza to give Bonham a first-and-10 at the Coyotes 39-yard line.

Again, Bonham failed to convert.

In the third period, a 25-yard field goal by Martinez stretched Anna's advantage to 10-0.

Bonham came close to scoring in the fourth quarter after a nice run by Gregory gave the Warriors excellent field position.  But Bonham fumbled at the two-yard line and Anna came up with the ball.
