Even after 10 days of a steady turnout during early voting, Fannin County Courthouse was a busy place on Election Day. For much of the afternoon, a line of voters stretched out of the courthouse doors and down the steps outside.
In addition to having their say regarding 11 constitutional amendments, voters in one school district were casting ballots in regard to a proposal to issue bonds and, in a neighboring school district, voters were deciding the fate of a possible rollback election.
In the end, voters turned down the Bonham ISD $40 million Bond Election by more that 2-to-1. The Ector ISD rollback tax was also denied by voters.
"The election judges and clerks, as well as the county clerk staff, all did an outstanding job during a stressful 14-hour day," remarked Fannin County Clerk Tammy Skidmore Rich late Tuesday evening.
