Austin, TX - League of Women Voters of Texas President Karen Nicholson urges Texans to prepare for Election Day on the proposed Constitutional Amendments by visiting www.lwvtexas.org for nonpartisan election information.

"This year we are proud to offer the Voters Guide for the November 3 Constitutional Amendments election.  The Guide presents the ballot language, a brief explanation, and some pros and cons for each of the eleven propositions.  Some local Leagues have held forums to discuss the amendments and answer questions," added Nicholson.

"In this election there has been a flurry of TV ads and emails encouraging people to vote a certain way without giving any facts.  The League encourages voters to make up their own minds after reading the Voters Guide," Nicholson continued.  "Well-informed voters have a better experience and help ensure that the entire voting process from waiting times to poll workers' workloads runs as smoothly as possible."

"As we approach Election Day, the LWV of Texas continues to work hard educating and encouraging citizens to turn out and vote," said Nicholson.  "Every election is important, especially off-year elections.  Fewer people vote in off-year elections, so your vote will have a significant impact this year."

"Voters should always have easy access to simple tools to help them navigate Election Day, especially when it comes to where and when to vote," said Mary G. Wilson, national League President.  "In addition to providing resources like the Voters Guides and public forums, the League also has an easy-to-use, nonpartisan voter information website, VOTE411.org, with state-specific information on ID requirements, voting machines, and contact information for local elections officials.  It is truly an invaluable resource."

"Although October is Voter Education Month, League members across Texas work throughout the year to safeguard our democracy and ensure an open and effective government," Nicholson continued.  "An informed, active electorate is needed at all levels, and the League has been an essential part of grassroots efforts to build a stronger nation, starting at the local and state level, for almost 90 years."

"We encourage all voters to vote this November," concluded Nicholson.
