Four local middle schools had a scrimmage of sorts recently…..a food scrimmage, that is.  Whitewright, Tom Bean, Leonard and Bells Middle Schools competed against each other for the title of winner in a food drive to help others around them.

SADD members encouraged students, staff and community members to contribute to a food drive to help their respective communities.  Whitewright won with 701 items, Tom Bean came in second with 591 items and Leonard was third with 215.  Students encouraged each other to bring canned goods and nonperishables.

SADD Officers Paige Carter, Caroline Henderson, and Dakota Smitherman helped Judy and Pat Hamilton and Willis and Mary Thurman of First Baptist Church stack the donated food at Tom Bean Middle School.

Churches in the area contributed to the race, telling their members about the competition.  Judy and Pat Hamilton and Mary and Willis of First Baptist Church in Tom Bean came to the Middle School to collect the items.  The other schools in the drive donated items to people in need within their areas.

Everyone had fun and contributed to their respective communities at the same time.  But Tom Bean vows to beat Whitewright next year!  Unless, of course, Leonard or Bells comes up and takes it away from both of them!
