Robert 'Buddy' Edwards Shelton

Robert “Buddy” Edwards Shelton, 83, longtime resident of Honey Grove passed away at his home Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.

Funeral services will be 3:00P.M. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Honey Grove, Texas. Rev. Rodney Stanford will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove. Pallbearers serving will be Jan Cummins, Keith Cummins, Will Merrill, Rich Merrill, Rob Merrill and Dale Brewer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Doyle, Bobby Joyce, Gerald Wishard, Billy Bob Stephens, Bill Stephens and Clyde Pope. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church annex.

Mr. Shelton was born June 15, 1926 in Honey Grove, Texas to parents, Robert E. Shelton and Mattie Edwards Shelton. He married Elida Jim Campbell April 11, 1950 in Honey Grove. Robert attained a Bachelor of Science Degree and was a farmer and rancher for many years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Honey Grove serving as a Deacon for many years.

Mr. Shelton is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jim,of the home.  3-Daughters, Peggy Shelton of Grapevine, TX; Nancy Shelton Cummins and Husband, Jan of Honey Grove, TX; Kathy Shelton Merrill and Husband, Will Merrill of St. Johnsbury, VT. Grandchildren, Krista Johnson of Honey Grove, TX; Keith Cummins of Dallas, TX; Kasie Cummins Brewer of Rockwall, TX; Rich Merrill of Austin,TX.; Rob Merrill of College Station, TX; and Patrick Merrill of St. Johnsbury, VT. Great Grandchildren, Regina Johnson, Victoria Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Coleman Johnson and Myka Brewer. Great Great Grandchild, Parker Jones. Sister, Martha Stephens and Husband, Bill of Honey Grove and Brother in Law, Clyde Pope of Honey Grove.

Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his parents and Sister, Mary Jane Pope who passed away June 13, 1999.
