FORT WORTH, Texas — Preserving the legend of the Native American Bison, the Texas Bison Association (TBA) announces its Fifth Annual Texas Bison Expo will be held on November 7, 2009 at the Stockyards Station in Fort Worth. The event attracts hundreds of ranchers and all bison enthusiasts are welcome to attend.

The annual Bison Expo features exhibitors from the bison industry from around the state, informative seminars on raising bison, the World Championship Buffalo Burger Challenge, and much more.

“Buffalo ranching and bison products are becoming increasingly popular and the Bison Expo puts a spotlight of these incredible animals which are so much a part of our Texas history,” says Tim Frasier, president of the Texas Bison Association. “The Bison Expo is the association’s largest event of the year, and the opportunities for networking with the best the industry has to offer and for newcomers to learn about bison are truly limitless.”

Growing in popularity among consumers and restaurants, bison meat is very lean and has become popular in supermarkets across the country. It contains far less calories and cholesterol than either beef or chicken and is a great alternative for people who want to improve their diet without giving up red meat. In addition, bison contributes about 69 percent more iron to a diet than beef and contains higher levels of vitamins and minerals, and is more non-allergenic and digestible than most other meats.

“Buffalo are a true American icon and I think these animals hold a special place in the hearts of all Texans,” adds Frasier. “The good news is they're still roaming right here in the great State of Texas.”

The Texas Bison Association is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 by bison owners and individuals concerned with the preservation and promotion of the North American Plains Bison. Today, the TBA provides assistance in raising and producing bison and promotes the nutritional health aspects of the North American Bison to consumers.
