Whitewright opened district play with a 3-0 loss to the state-ranked Melissa Cardinals in volleyball action. Mangrum, Hames, and Williams had two aces each. The Lady Tigers played well but the taller, more experienced Melissa team prevailed.
Whitewright will continue district play Friday at Gunter.
