STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS—Tarleton State University graduate student Tammy M. Ettredge recently received one of the top awards presented at the Annual Conference of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) held at Utah State University. At the conference Ettredge was awarded with the NACTA Graduate Student Teacher Award.

The conference’s theme was “Retaining the Best.” The purpose of the annual conference is to provide for professional advancement of faculty engaged in classroom teaching. Participants have the opportunity to share teaching methods, philosophies and styles of instruction.

Ettredge is pursing her master’s degree in agricultural education with an emphasis in agricultural communication. Originally from Pilot Point, Texas, Ettredge is the daughter of Mike and Barbara Ettredge. After earning her bachelor’s in animal industries with a minor in communication from Tarleton in May 2006, she worked in the communication department of the American Angus Association as a public relations summer intern.

Ettredge has served Tarleton’s Department of Agricultural Services and Development as a graduate teaching assistant the last two years. She has worked primarily with the Applied Agricultural Analysis course and also served as the computer laboratory resource assistant.

In addition to her teaching duties, Ettredge has presented and published multiple research studies and served as the graduate adviser for the Tarleton chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow. Ettredge feels that not only has educating students changed her professionally, but it also has allowed her to develop personally.

The North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) is a professional society that focuses on promoting, recognizing and rewarding excellence in teaching agriculture and related areas at the post secondary level in North America. Members of NACTA are from two-year and four-year colleges, public and private, and have a common bond of teaching agriculture and related subjects.
