Kylie Bishop and Becky Forbus, the Region II – 2A girls doubles champion from Farmersville, ended their season at the UIL State Tennis Championships at the UT campus in Austin on Monday, May 5.

At 4-4 in the first set, it appeared the match could go either way, as the Farmersville highly successful duo dueled Mason, a dynasty tennis program located about 100 miles northwest of Austin.  In a match which saw most games go to “deuce,” Mason triumphed 6-4, 6-2, and ended up as the state runner-up to another Mason team.

This marked the sixth consecutive state girls doubles title for Mason, and the 20th in the last 25 years.

Although falling short of achieving their ultimate goal, Bishop and Forbus had a lot to be proud of this season, having won six tournament titles, including the District 13-2A championship and the Region II-2A title.  They had lost only one match this season, to a 4A Denton team.

The athletic duo had bonded even before tennis season began, advancing in other athletic pursuits.  They were FHS teammates at the regional cross country meet and the regional volleyball tournament in the fall, and played Lady Farmers basketball together.  Also, both had individually achieved the “Champ” level in the USTA (United States Tennis Association), via winning a tournament last summer.

Way to go, Kylie and Becky!
