Mental Health Mental Retardation Services of Texoma and its Planning Network Advisory Committee (PNAC) will hold two Local Planning and Network Development meetings about community mental health services on Tuesday, May 13 at Grayson County College Workforce Auditorium, 6101 Grayson Drive, Denison. Interested stakeholders can attend the 10:00-11:30 a.m. meeting or the 6:30-8:00p.m. meeting. Mental health consumers and family members, advocacy groups, mental health providers, and other community and government stakeholders are urged to attend.
The new state law called Local Planning and Network Development requires all Community MHMR centers to create a network of outside agencies to provide mental health treatment services. MHMR Services of Texoma, like other MHMR community centers, must develop a plan to show how this will happen. In creating this plan, the center must get comments, thoughts, and suggestions from mental health consumers, their families, and other members of the community.
This law requires community centers to explore opportunities for expanding the network of other available providers in order that mental health consumers and families be given a choice about who provides treatment. Some services may be contracted out to another available provider, but MHMR Services of Texoma will continue to be a driving force in the provision of services in Grayson, Cooke, and Fannin counties.
The purpose of the May 13th meetings is to help individuals learn more about this law and what is happening to mental health services in the Texoma region. Participants will be given an opportunity to provide input about mental health services and needs and will be asked to complete a survey. Persons who can not attend one of the meetings, but would like to complete a survey should contact Tonia Vernon at 903-957-4873 or tvernon@mhmrst.org. or view the center's website: www.mhmrst.org.
