FORT WORTH -- North Texas nonprofit Score A Goal In The Classroom will host a benefit concert Saturday, May 24 from 7:00 p.m. until midnight at the Fort Worth Stockyards Station. The event features live music from Professor D, a nationally acclaimed band with local roots. The festivities also include free food; a cash bar; and a silent auction featuring signed sports memorabilia, spa certificates, dinning opportunities and more.

In 2007 Score A Goal In The Classroom served approximately 540,000 students, thousands of families, and educators in 39 public school districts and 35 private schools. The benefit concert will provide the organization with much needed funding to continue serving North Texas students during the 2008-09 school year.

“We need the community’s support in helping raise the level of education and honoring our real heroes: teachers and school employees,” said Score A Goal In The Classroom Executive Director Ernie Horn.

The concert will be held in the Back Forty at the Stockyards Station, located at 130 East Exchange Avenue in Fort Worth, with event parking off of northeast 23rd street. Tickets will be available at the door for $20 per person or $30 per couple.

Professor D plays jazz, contemporary, R&B, country and dance tunes. Band members include: Willie Roy Jr. (Toby Keith’s trumpet player), as well as Scott Sean White, James Wallace, Rodney Bowens, John Hauser, Brent Nance, Carly Reign and Gordon Pope. The original band members began playing together under the Professor D name in 1989 at North Texas State University in Denton.

Score A Goal In The Classroom is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt educational incentive program designed to encourage and motivate students kindergarten through 12th grade with positive rewards, giving them the opportunity to raise grades, achieve better attendance and become more responsible citizens.

The organization also encourages reading among young people and their families and strives to recognize and motivate educators across North Texas. For more information or to make a donation, call 817-429-4024 or visit www.scoreagoal.org.
