On Sunday, April 13 a new support group started meeting at noon at First United Methodist Church in Sherman. This group is for the support and connection with resources of persons with mental illness and their families.
It grew out of classes that NAMI (National Alliance On Mental Illness) gave to churches in our three counties last year to help them with ideas on how to help persons with mental illness better.
Mr. Greg Barber is on the board of NAMI and also a member at FUMC Sherman. He asked permission to get this new support group started and they decided to meet 2nd and 4th Sundays at noon after church in their educational wing at 401 N. Elm in Sherman.
This support group is open to the public and can definitely help individuals and their families find resources, encouragement, help, and move toward recovery.
Mr. John Hoelzel, NAMI GFC president attended this first meeting and participated in sharing experiences with mental illness in his family and how support, education, and advocacy has helped their family through the years.
For questions, please call Mr. Greg Barber at 903-487-0203. When you reach out and visit this group you will be rewarded with hope, help, and support that will really encourage you. Please share this with your friends so they can benefit as well.
