Once again, the mellow tones of the old organ will ring the rafters of the 125-year-old St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Honey Grove on Sunday, April 27 where Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Bonham will celebrate the Feast of St. Mark's at 11:00 in the morning.
The Vicar of Holy Trinity, William Dalton, will serve the Eucharist accompanied by Cantor/Organist Michael-David Risser Gant. The public is invited to attend.
St. Mark's Episcopal Church is the oldest church building in Honey Grove and one of the oldest in the North Texas area. The church was built by pioneering families of Honey Grove in 1883 and closed its doors in 1993 without enough communicants to sustain it as a Parish or Mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.
The building is owned by the Hall-Voyer Foundation who restored it. The Foundation has done a magnificent job of maintaining the historic old building.
The annual celebration of the Feast of St. Mark's is offered in thanksgiving for the life of the Church in Fannin County. The establishment of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bonham and St. Mark's in Honey Grove pre-date the establishment of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas in the last quarter of the 1800s.
All of the pews, the magnificent stained glass windows, the altar and artifacts are in place as they were when the last regular service was held there 15 years ago.
