Reminder - Sherman Independent School District hopes everyone had an enjoyable spring break. Classes resume Monday, March 24, 8:00 a.m.
Smile for the Bunny
Wakefield students enjoyed an early visit from the Easter Bunny last week as a fundraiser for the Mustang Musicians. On a volunteer basis, students paid a small fee to have their picture made with Mr. Bunny, but where is he hiding his eggs?
Shown here are Katie, Naje and Christy reminding him to visit them on Easter Sunday.
Perrin Egg Hunt
The annual Perrin Elementary School egg hunt was held Friday under the direction of the Perrin PTA members.
"This has been going on for over nine years," said Perrin Principal, Linda Salinas, "and the students look forward to it with great delight. Our staff is grateful to the PTA for sponsoring it each year."
There are hunts for each grade level and variety in the way they hunt. Third grade students got their share of exercise when they held an egg hunt relay. Younger students must count their eggs as they hunt, making sure they have the correct amount in their sack.
Shown here is Brandon Prough dashing to retrieve his allotted amount of eggs and race back to his teammates, who are screaming for him to hurry so they can win the relay.
Hippity Hop Hop
Students at Washington each brought a dozen filled eggs for hunting and counting. Parent volunteers, teacher assistants and interns played Easter bunny and "hid" the eggs for each class.
Shown here are students in Luz Roth’s class on a mission to find their one dozen eggs.
Top Notch Spellers
The Dillingham Spelling Bee winners are, (L-R, front row), 3rd Place, Jessie Noblett (6th grade) - Mrs. Bateman's Language Class, 2nd Place, Jordan Fladeland (5th grade) - Mrs. Wilson's Language Class, and 1st Place, Sam Pitts (6th grade) - Mrs. Bateman's Language Class.
Ms. Sandra Schultz and Michelle Dunn were co-sponsors of the event this year. Ms. Renee Beland, Ms. Tracy Powers, and Mrs. Carol Hix were the judges.
Yummy, A Cell to Eat
Students in Ricky Wilson’s science class constructed a multitude of cell designs using food to symbolize the parts of the cell that they had just learned. The grocery store and kitchen cabinets were the limit when it came to all the different foods the students used to reinforce scientific terms.
Can you find the cytoplasm and nucleus in Daniel McClendon’s pizza cell? What about the vacuole and endoplasmic reticulum in Eddy Reynosa’s cake cell? Students labeled each part and shared the information with the class and then they just dug in! No one reported getting sick from eating their cells!
