COMMERCE, Texas – In response to media inquiries, Texas A&M University-Commerce has prepared the following statement by Director of Athletics, Jim Johnson:

“I think it is appropriate that our institution bring clarity from our end to the situation surrounding the football program at the University of Oklahoma.

“First and foremost, like the University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M University-Commerce is an NCAA member institution firmly committed to following all NCAA rules and legislation.

“We are firmly committed to ensuring that we diligently educate our coaches, student-athletes and boosters on those rules.

“That said, we have sent a request, per NCAA legislation, to the University of Oklahoma asking permission to contact Rhett Bomar and to discuss the possibility of his transfer to A&M-Commerce.

“Until the release is returned to us, we have no further comment at this time regarding Bomar.”
