Dodd City Lady Hornets rout Avalon in regional quarterfinals

The Dodd City Lady Hornets erupted for 12 runs in the second inning to fuel a runaway 19-3 win over Avalon in the regional quarterfinals.

The Lady Hornets began pulling away in the bottom of the first inning when Emma Garner, Kelsey Hewett and Addison Weeks walked before eventually scoring. Lily Goodwin drove in a run on a fielder's choice.

In the decisive second inning, Hannah Burney drove in a run with a single, Garner worked the pitcher for a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run, Hewett walked to score another run, Weeks lined out and another run came home, Goodwin drew a walk to send another Lady Hornet across home plate, Sierra Garcia's double brought in a run, Burney walked to force in another run, Kailen Kavanaugh walked to score a run and Garner walked to bring in a run.

Dodd City went back to work in the bottom of the third when Kavanaugh was struck by a pitch and Garner walked, each scoring one run.

Hannah Burney had eight strikeouts en route to picking up the win and achieving a season total of 100 K’s.

The Lady Hornets advance to the Region II-A semifinals where they will take on Abbott.
