Bonham ISD teacher arrested on allegations of inappropriate social media communication with a student

Bonham, Texas -- A statement released by Bonham ISD reports that Jherson Manuel, a teacher at I.W. Evans Intermediate School, was arrested Thursday, February 8, 2024, by the Bonham ISD Police Department on allegations of inappropriate social media communication with a high school student.

When Bonham ISD received the report from the student on February 7, the teacher was immediately removed from campus and placed on administrative leave. The Bonham ISD Police Department, in cooperation with Fannin County Children's Advocacy Center quickly conducted the initial investigation which led to the teacher's arrest by Bonham ISD Police Department at the Bonham ISD Administration Center on the morning of February 8.

Bonham ISD Superintendent Kelly Trompler's statement reads:

As a school superintendent, the safety and well-being of our students are on utmost importance, and behaviors that harm children are never tolerated. The District takes this situation seriously, and our highest priority will remain the safety of your child. I want to assure you that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities as well as Fannin County Children's Advocacy Center to ensure justice is served.

I understand this news may be distressing to our school community, and we are committed to providing support and resources for any students or families who may be affected by this situation. Our counseling staff is available to provide assistance and support as needed.
