Sherman, Texas -- Texas Department of Transportation officials today advised travelers that the opening of the new southbound lanes of FM 1417 from US 82 to State Highway 56 is tentatively slated for Feb. 9.

The work necessary to make this happen is very weather dependent so the exact date of this traffic switch may change, officials said. Portable message boards are in place on this project to provide a heads-up to motorists, and any weather-driven date change for the planned traffic switch will be displayed on these message boards.

Travelers are advised that after this traffic switch occurs, intermittent temporary daily lane closures will be required for north- and southbound traffic on FM 1417 to move the project toward completion. The estimated target completion date for the FM 1417 project is March 25, 2024.

Motorists who travel frequently in this area are asked to pay special attention to all barricades, traffic controls and signs, and to reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
