McKinney, Texas -- A revision to the Mayoral Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to Public Health Emergency instructs all commercial and non-profit entities in the City of McKinney that are currently providing goods or services directly to the public to implement a health and safety policy by Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 12:01 p.m., and that policy must require that all employees and visitors to the entity's premises wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth when in close proximity to coworkers or the public.

McKinney Mayor George Fuller's fourth revision to the Mayoral Declaration of Disaster goes on to say that the mandatory mask policy is only the minimum requirement; the entity's policy may also require temperature checks and health screenings.

There are notable exceptions.

The entity's policy may allow individuals with an operational need to remove a face covering to do so -- as long as the operational needs are specifically addressed in the policy.

The requirement to wear a face covering does not apply if covering the nose and mouth poses a significant mental or physical health risk to the individual. If possible, a face shield is recommended to be worn in the event a face covering cannot be safely worn.

In addition, the requirement to wear a face covering does not apply when an individual is consuming food or beverage or receiving a service where the wearing of a face covering would impair the performance of the service.

In all public areas, people 10 years or older are strongly urged to wear a face covering when in close proximity to others. The CDC recommends face coverings for people 2 years or older.

City residents should maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet when outside their home.

This Mayoral Declaration will remain in effect until July 6 unless terminated by McKinney City Council or a related Executive Order issued by Texas Governor Greg Abbott pertaining to COVID-19.
